  • Good Idea to apply for tourist visa, even if traveling for business?

    Hello,

I am currently attempting to obtain a visa for a business trip to India later this month. The trip is not until late March, so I have some time, but I the business visa process is much more arduous than a normal tourist visa.

The trip is with a bunch of different companies participating, arranging travel, paying etc., so simply answering some of the required questions on the business visa form is a problem.

Would it be a better idea to just apply for a tourist visa, as I will only be there for a few days, to simplify the process? Or is that a very bad idea/could potentially get me rejected at the airport or deported? Would Indian authorities really care/be able to find out anyway if I am only going to be in the country for a few days?

    Thanks for your assistance

If you are traveling on business, apply for a business visa. The two additional pieces you need to submit are a letter from one of the companies you are visiting in India and a letter from your parent company. These are pretty common requirements for any country which requires you to apply for a business visa. Most large companies routinely provide these letters. If you use the wrong visa type, you will risk getting caught. The odds of getting into trouble are low, but there is always a risk. Only you can decide if you want to take the chance of landing in trouble with Indian bureaucracy and potentially your employer (if they get to know of it).
