  • Travel to India when OCI and renunciation in progress

    Hi,

I recently applied for OCI card and the renunciation of Indian passport. It looks like it will take another month to get the OCI card and get it stamped on my US passport. Meanwhile, I now need to travel to India for business. However, BLS website (http://www.visa.blsindia-usa.com/) describing document requirements for Indian visa says:

"For Indian origin: For people of Indian origin applying for a Visa (any category) or OCI, a copy of Renunciation Certificate / Surrender Certificate and a copy of Naturalization certificate (both the documents) is mandatory."

If that is true, then, can I travel to India on US passport with Indian Visa while my OCI application and renunciation is being processed?

Thanks again for the exemplar work you are doing to the community.

I would like to know this too.

The BLS visa says that it takes 2.5 months for an OCI! I did apply it in time for my travel, but it looks like I might not get it by the next month.

I wish at least the 6 month visa did not have the renunciation requirement.

Apply for India visa while OCI is in process

I am in the same boat. I applied for OCI back in January and the still waiting. What if you apply like other US citizens without selecting the person of Indian origin?

        Should have renounced earlier guys.

        No renunciation = no visa.

Don't risk it, imagine mistreatment that will be give to you by desk babu's at IG or HYD.

You're in the greatest country in the world, appreciate the safety.
