Tatkal Passport for Foreign Residents

I have been residing in US since past 15 months and my passport is about to max out it's 10 year team or expire in June 2015 and need to be reissued / re-issued. Also I plan to visit India for 3 weeks in August. Is it possible for me to apply under Tatkal category in India during this period and get the passport in hand within this 3 weeks time? Also as I was not in India for the past 1 year, is there are rule which bars me from applying under Tatkal category due to this condition?

In my case how will be address verification be done by police, as I was not in my India address for the past year and what address should be given in the application forms?

I would suggest you get the renewal while in US itself, it may cost a few 100 Dollars doing in Tatkaal in US but it will be a lot smoother and stress free rather than doing so in India. In India you will end up contacting agents, police clearance, bribing and may take much longer than 3 weeks.

Thanks Raghvi. The disadvantage of applying from US is, as I stay on lease in US on a year to year basis, i will miss out on my permanent India address being added on to the passport. The US address on my passport dont make much sense to me as it might be invalid, the next year.

Hi Sree,

Were you able to renew your passport in India under Tatkal ? I am in the same boat. I have resided in the U.S. for a long time and my passport was renewed in Chicago last time. Would that stop me from getting it renewed while in India ?

Police Verification for TatKall re-issue in India with current address aborad

I am facing exactly the same situation. Could you please let me know if you were able to re-issue passport in India without hassle by showing your current address in the US? If yes, what documents did you submit, what kind of police verification was done and how long did it take?

Just wanted to know how was your experience in this process as I am in a similar situation. Were you able to re-issue your passport in India by showing your current address in the US? What kind of police verification was done and how long did it take? What are the documents that you had to provide?

I got mine renewed at the Chicago consulate under Tatkal before leaving for India. I did not want to take chances of getting stuck in India. The reason for me was visiting my elderly sick mom for Diwali and they took it under consideration. I had the passport in a week before I left. Hope that helps!

I am in similar situation
1. Need to renew passport expiring in Feb, 2015
2. Residing in USA for last 2 years.
3. Currently in INDIA because of father illness.

Need my renewed passpoart ASAP. Please update thread if anyone was able to renew passport in INDIA with foreign address.
