Hello All,
First post so please forgive any mistakes.
Situation:
I went to apply for an OCI a few weeks ago from the Bangalore FRRO office. I had all the documents necessary (copies of my parents surrendered passports, naturalization certificate, current passport, indian birth certificate, residence proof, renunciation certificate, and...I think that's it). When I handed over the forms, I was told that my renunciation certificate (which was issued by the SFO consulate through Travisa) was invalid because it was missing the consulate stamp. This confused me since it has the "passport surrendered..." stamp and a "CO" (followed by some number) stamp. In addition to this, I have the original receipt that Travisa issued for the renunciation certificate transaction. Yet, I was told it was missing a stamp and that I had to get a new certificate and that I had to show my parents original passport (I arrived as a minor on my mother's passport, which has been surrendered and upon which there also is a stamp; copies of this were given as well) and that copies weren't enough. When I called the SFO consulate, they couldn't verify the stamps and said I'd have to go through the entire process again. Which means reapplying through another consulate (since I've relocated), and going BACK to the US. I'm married and pushing for OCI so I can stay in India with my wife. Currently here on a visitor's visa with about 4 months validity remaining. What's the fastest/best way to resolve this situation?
TLDR/Issue:
Bangalore FRRO refuses to accept OCI application because it needs parents original passport and a surrender certificate with another stamp (that the SFO consulate forgot to put on there when I got the certificate through Travisa). Want to stay with wife in India but am here on a tourist visa and have 4 months remaining.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
