  • Renewing OCI in new Passport for Child

I am scared to even go through this process for obvious reasons, but my daughter's passport is expiring and I will need to get a new sticker in her new passport. I am sure I can read the CKGS website, but can someone tell me how involved the paperwork and proof process is for doing so? Will it be as simple as sending in the OCI as proof and getting a new sticker?

    Please advise

    Thanks

I did the same a few weeks back. First get your new passport. Then, start collecting all documents. You will need two copies of everything and basically it is the same set as when you had initially applied for OCI. This time, you will need to send the original OCI card as well as the original expired passport. You will need proof of renunciation of both parents.

I will suggest that you go personally to CKGS if you can. Both parents are required.

    Good Luck!

Thanks, but what is the burden of proof to be provided for renewal of OCI? Isn't the original OCI enough proof?

Unfortunately not. They are not that bright. The Indian bureaucracy loves paper and lots of it. You will need copies of almost everything. Make copies of forms, old passport, new passport, oci visa, oci card, birth certificate, parent's driver licences, renunciation, passports and the whole lot. On the website they say submit two copies and over there they take only one. So it is confusing as usual.

The good thing is if you appear in person, they will make sure you have all the right documents and there is a copier available for free just in case.

If you do go in person, go in the morning before 11 - you will spend less time waiting.

Thanks, makes sense. Why would I expect anything else. Last time I went in person and submitted the documents after following all the guidelines, but the person told me I missed one thing. So, I went back the next day with the info and was inspected by a different person who now told me I had everything, and accepted my applications. However, after 3 months they informed me I was missing some piece of information...WTF? After two sets of people looking at it they still told me I was missing something...and that too after 3 months....what a waste
