  • Options for OCIs reissue for Minors?

I just came to know about the requirement of reissue of OCI for minors. I have two kids with OCI U-Visa on an expired US passport and new US passport. After reading all the horror stories, I an scared to send the reissue application to CKGS.

    - Can I apply for tourist visa for my KIDs? Gievn that they already have OCI, is it even an option?
    - I plan to Travel after 4 months. So have some time. Should I take the plunge to apply for reissuance of OCI for my KIDs? Any suggestions about timeline in Houston?
    - In Indian consulate site (Washington DC), In OCI FAQ, it says, In case of emergency, it's OK to travel with U-VISA on old passport, New Passport and the OCI registration doc.

Anyone traveled to Delhi (or any other airport in India) in recent time (May-June-July '2014) with expired passport with U-Visa for Minors - Can you pl. share your experience? I will really appreciate that. Last time in June 2012 , My wife went to Delhi with Kids in same situation without any problem.

    Thanks

YOu have enough time to reapply for a new sticker in the new passport. If it doesn't come back on time, you can apply for a tourist visa, but i think you should be fine

I agree. They say it takes 8-10 weeks for processing. You have enough time and you can always apply for a visa if there are unexpected delays.

I read somewhere that they might do away with reissue in a few years. Let us hope that happens and we do not have to go thru this bureaucratic hell again.

      Good Luck!

I appreciate the responses. Anyone with recent experience travelling in my situation? (Kids travelling with OCI on old US passport).

I haven't seen any 'denied entry' experiences in this or any other forum in this situations. This makes me believe, even if this rule is there for last few years, Indian immigration is not enforcing it at all. This makes sense given the illogical nature of this rule (OCI being lifelong visa, why I have to renew it every five years for kids - I would have never applied for it at the first place if I knew this before - tourist visa would have been a much better option with less processing hassle) as well CKGS is over whelmed by all sorts of applications (and mishadling a lot of them).

I will appreciate is someone share their recent experiences in same situation.

        Thanks.

There have been recent rumors that this has become more strict in the recent few months. However while it is the rule that one would want to try and get a renewal, we have not heard of this ever being enforced at the port of entry. I would not worry about this yet.

OCIS, Thanks. From your other posts under different threads, it's apparent that you are very Knowledgeable about OCIS/PIO related matters. By any chance, are you associated with Indian Embassies in anyway? Just curious.
