General POI card questions

Hi ,I have a 2months old baby and planning to apply POI card .His passport is expected to come next week but the issue is I need to travel back to India by Sep 1st week (i.e 4-5 weeks from now).I am not sure it will be able to get it done since I need to get my passport in my hand first.

SO my questions are

1.Is it possible to take my child without a POI card .I read I can take a visitor visa and go .Is it true?If yes,how much time it will take.


2.I may not be able to come back to US .So say I am travelling back with visitor visa with my POI card applied.Can any other person recieve it here.?or will they send POI card to Indian address?

3.is there any way which I can expedite the POI application process .Normal processing time seems to be 3-6 weeks.

Visa process takes about two weeks. Once you get the passport, I would suggest you go to the CKGS center personally. You can apply for a PIO in India. PIO cannot be expedited.

You might want to contact the Indian consulate about that. Check the contact us page on their website and send an email to the oci/pio dept. Usually they respond in a day or two.

You will have to submit a proof of address with your application. Request delivery service by mail and then ask your friend here to receive it. That should work.

Ciju - This situation does not arise. If you apply for PIO while in USA, you will need to submit US passport along with your PIO application, without your US passport you will not be able to travel out of the country. So the question of somebody else receiving PIO on your behalf is moot.
