How will one know when to send US passport for OCI?

I never received any email. My status for OCI shows "Document received At" is done earlier in the month at SF consulate. What needs to be sent along with the US passport?

The instructions at CKGS are not clear about this step.

That is a joke. My OCI application was approved by GOI on Aug 01. Till today, the status on CKGS website has not been updated. Funny thing is that the other day I received a phone call from CKGS saying my application was approved and I should send my original passport for match up.

Keep monitoring your application status on the GOI website. Once it says that your documents have been received by the consulate, you will have to send your original passport to CKGS for match up.

Keep monitoring your application status on the GOI website. Once it says that your documents have been received by the consulate, you will have to send your original passport to CKGS for match up.

I have not received any email from them even though the status enquiry page shows that SF received documents more than 3 weeks ago. Aren't we required to wait for the email that specified WHAT/WHEN/HOW of the passport send process?

Where can one find instructions on what to send with the passport? e.g where/any cover letter/other information etc?

As soon as you see on the GOI website that your OCI has been received by the consulate, send your passport for match up. Don't wait for CKGS to update their website. They say this clearly on their website under the Important Notice for Match up...

If you can go to their center personally, that will be better.

When you send the passport, what do you include? A sheet that has the applicant's name, Web Reference#? Any other information?

Include all information like name, address, passport no., tracking no. file no. etc. Also include a copy of their receipt, a copy of the application form and a copy of the prepaid label if supplied. They say it takes 15 days from when they receive your passport. You have to constantly push them to do their job - so make sure to email them every week so that they do not forget about you.

Enter your
Passport Number AND
Online Registration Number OR File (Acknowledgement) Number.
Step 2: Print the tracking status update.

Step 3: If you have submitted your OCI application to BLS previously then please mention this information on your letter.

Step 4: Send your passport through FEDEX* or your can also visit the visa application centre in person to submit your passport for match-ups.


Send by Courier / Mail:
If you opt to send your original US passport to visa application center then please ensure you to complete the following:

Send your passport in a sealed envelope super scribed as “OCI MATCH UP – APPLICATION REFERENCE NUMBER IS: “____________“.
You must enclose print out of this email.
Send your envelope to CKGS visa application center as per the consular jurisdiction.

Note: Application must be sent to the CKGS Application Center of area of your jurisdiction. It must NOT be sent to the Indian Embassy / Consulates.

In Person:
If you decide to come in person to submit your original US passport then please visit the CKGS visa application center between 08:30 - 09:30 Hrs from Monday to Friday (Except holidays).

The consulates only do emergency match ups - if you have to travel within a week. If not then you are stuck with CKGS. They will take another 3 weeks.

I received a call from them yesterday asking me to come and pickup my passport. When I had applied, I had told them I want my passport back by mail. I had supplied them with a prepaid return label. Then when I sent the match up packet, I sent them a copy of this label once again. Now they want me to scan the label and send that to them via email once more and it will take them another week just to mail my passport back. How incompetent can these people get?

It has now been a month since my application was approved by the Govt. of India!

GOI website is updated once CKGS sends your app to the consulate. You can use either no. to track. The USAK no. they provided when you filled your form is the registration no.
