Travel with new US passport but OCI sticker in expired US passport

Good luck and hope all of you get what you want soon enough! Maybe oft repeated question but -

1. Can I travel to India with a new US passport, OCI card and expired US passport that has U visa sticker. Is this still acceptable or do they insist on having a new U visa sticker in the new passport too?
2. My OCI application is still "in process" in Washington. Question is - physically where is the application sitting as I had sent my OCI card and expired US passport with the application? Is it in CKGS office or at the Embassy?

I am going to ask them to send back my OCI card + expired US passport in the prepaid Fedex envelope.
