Does this mean the PIO is now equivalent to the OCI ?
No need to register after 5 Months with the Police ?
And validity is for Life ? meaning one stay forever ?

    Exit permit still required ?

      PIO = OCI NOW !!

      WOW GREAT NEWS !!! FANTASTIC

      - - - Updated - - -

Does this mean that one doesnt require an exit permit from the Police
      while leaving India ?
One can come and go without registration or requiring clearance to leave ?

If this is the case its very good news !!!

This is only the 1st step. This makes PIO validity lifetime and no hassle of Police station notifications.
However merging and providing equal benefits at par with OCi would take some time.

Does no hassel with the Police mean one doesn't need
an exit permission to leave the Country ?

Like if I am holding an PIO and exceed the 180 Days deadline.
Since I don't need to report to the Police,I stay close to 2 Years.
2 Years later when I leaving do I need to inform the Police or can
I just book a plane ticket and leave ? Is this even possible with an
          OCI ?

          - - - Updated - - -

          Benifits of OCI ?
As far as I know there are only two differences between
          OCI and PIO
          1.180 days deadline,requiring registration.
          2.OCI is valid for Life.

I presume now with the Home Ministry statement,
these two tenets are deemed invalid, virtually bringing
the PIO on par with an OCI.

Kindly correct me if I am wrong.

I was going to apply for OCI. Now I want to know which process is easier (less time consuming) OCI or PIO?
            Any comments will be appreciated.
            Thanks!
