should I apply for Indian VISA/PIO/ or renew OCI?

Question 1: I have a 5 year old, whose passport had to be renewed now. His old passport has OCI, but it has to be renewed as per rules.
I want to leave to India on Dec 19 2014 and the time frame is not enough for me to start this process. Will it be OK if I apply for a 10 year VISA now? Will it get rejected because I applied for OCI earlier? What is the time frame for receiving VISA? Today it is 10/16/2014 and I need to leave on Dec 19 2014.

Question 2: I also have a 10 month old. We are yet to apply for any type of Indian VISA for him. Can I apply for PIO card because it does not require renewals everytime I get a new passport? Or is it best to just apply for 10 year visa given the time frame?

It depends upon whether you are planning to move to India permanently or for a short period.

If permanently, PIO cards would be better.

If don't have enough time to get them processed, apply for Visa for now and once you are in India, apply for PIO from there.
