OCI documents

I am British trying to apply for OCI on the basis of my grandmothers birth in India.
I do not have any passport for her and she left india as a child.
What documents can i provide to prove her birth in India ?
I have my parents birth certificate showing my grandmothers name, unfortunately my parents and grandparents have expired so I am having to research all possible links to get the required documents..

It sounds like you have a slim chance of getting it. Since you have no documentation whatsoever. Does her british passport have her place of birth listed? You can apply if you are really particular about it, and see if it is granted. Else you can visit India easily on tourist visa. Hope that helps.

Hi Mark, how did you get on with the documents? I'm in a similar situation. My nan was born in India to an Indian mum and British farther. She moved to the UK when she was about 8 years old. I have no documents such as birth certificate (I don't think they issued her with one pre 1950) but I have her British passport saying her place of birth was India and a baptism certificate issued in India which shows her said to be born date, parents details and abode in India. I'm just not sure that either of these documents will be enough. I've called up the VFS helpine but they haven't been able to help. I've been looking at the APPLICATION FOR NATIVITY CERTIFICATE but the guidance on how to complete it isn't great and I'm not sure how I would get it validated when I live in the UK.
