  • Family OCI (with parents' renunciation)

    Hi,

I am working on my application for a family OCI. Hubby and I do not have the renunciation, so we are applying for OCI and renunciation and the kids (since they are US citizens by birth) are applying just for the OCI. On the CKGS site, the instructions for the minor OCI state (point 11) "if parent NEED to obtain RENUNCIATION CERTIFICATE, then they need to apply for renunciation certificate PRIOR to submitting application for minor."

Does that mean that I cannot submit one OCI Application - One application accompanied with Hubby's & my Renunciation application?

From these instructions it appears that I have the following two options
    1. Submit Hubby's & my renunciation and then submit OCI for the family

    Or

    2. Submit Hubby's & my OCI + renunciation & then submit OCI application for the children.

Another question arises, can these applications be handed in the same day one after the other? Does anybody have clarity on this process? I had written to CKGS, but just got their automated response asking for passport # & Tracking ID and asked me to send e-mail from registered email ID. So not really expecting much help from them. I could not find their phone number either to be able to contact them regarding this issue of mine.

Any help would be much appreciated!

I was in the same boat. The process does allow for you to submit the family OCI and renunciation concurrently, and the online payment system does reflect this . CKGS gave our documents the all clear and they are in Delhi presently.

Go ahead and send them together, but make sure you have the correct docs notarized.

      Thank you!

There are not that many documents to notarize - Form B (Minor Portion at the bottom) and the Parental Authorization - both because a minor is involved. Could you please let me know if I am missing any? I did not find any document in renunciation that needed notarizing.

Again, thank you for your response.

I went through the same situation recently. I chose the safe route of getting the renunciation done first for me and my wife. It only took about 10 days even thought the snowstorm in January shut down New York and Fedex deliveries for 2 or 3 days. After that I sent the family application. Regarding notarization, you are correct. I thnk you also need to self attest/signature every page of the checklist and additional particulars form. Include multiple copies of documents such as passport/naturlization certificate, etc ( one for each applicant, and one for each procedure, i.e., renunciation/OCI, etc)
