Can a minor renounce US citizenship ?

Hi,

I am currently in Seattle and working on H1b Visa.
My wife is pregnant and will be giving birth to a baby girl in Sep 2015. I am planning to go back to India for good in 3 yrs.

Could any please clarify me, if I can go back with US passport (considering that I might have to come back in future due to job assignments) + OCI card;

I want to know -- can minor renounce US citizenship @ US consulate in India ?

On this forum, I have seen ppl making statement that MINOR CANNOT renounce US citizenship and they can do so ONLY at the age of 18. HOWEVER.

Kid born in USA is US citizen. What you can do is to first register birth in Indian consulate and get a birth registration certificate, then apply for Indian passport. You can go back to India with this Indian passport. If you are ever coming back, then apply for US passport at US consulate in India and then cancel Indian passport due to acquiring foreign nationality, then obtain OCI card.

You can't renounce his US citizenship. He has to do it when he is 18.

In my view it is an advantage to be a US citizen as the passport has more value and can travel visa free to many countries in the world compared to Indian passport.
OCI can be used to travel, study, work and stay in India for lifelong.
