Hi All,
I'm applying for an OCI on the basis of my grandmother being born in India. She moved to the UK around 1947 at the age of 8. She never had a Indian passport as she was automatically given a British passport as her father was a British National (her mother Indian National). She did not complete school in India so again there is no school certificate that I can provide. The only proof documents I have of her birth in India is her British passport which says her place of birth was India and her original baptism certificate which was issued in India by the church which gives details of when she was baptised, said to be born, parents name, abode (which shows the state in India) along with the signature of the issuing church.
Neither of these documents are listed as accepted documents so I just wondered if anyone had any experience with submitting such documents as proof and if you think these will be accepted? I jumped the gun slightly and booked my document submission for this Friday, not realising that these documents might not be sufficient.
I have also seen details about the application for the nativity certificate which can be submitted when someone does not have sufficient documents as proof of birth in India. Has anyone had any experience applying for this from the UK? There isn't much guidance on how to complete the form. The VFS helpline said the form needed to be completed as my grandmother being the applicant, but the form later asks for the parent or grandparents details who were born and lived in India, so it's very confusing. Does anyone have any advice on how the form should be completed? Do you know what size picture needs to be provided with the form as the template picture box is much smaller than the one on the OCI application. Once the form is complete does anyone know how I would get it validated from the relevant state in India, while I am in the UK?
