  • Minor US Citizen Indian Parents

    Hi,

Our son is born in USA and we applied for his passport. It is in process.
We are planning to travel to India. Do my son need an OCI card or if we get a Tourist Visa to my son is it ok.

We understand OCI card takes at least 2 months, and Visitor visa we can get it in 2 weeks.

Can we travel on Tourist Visa, come back to US and apply for OCI card.

    Please clarify.

You can get visitor (tourist) visa for now, which is valid for 6 months. If you plan to stay in India for more than 6 months, you better get OCI before you travel.

I had a similar situation and got a tourist visa for my daughter and had no problems.

    good luck!

I have a pending OCI, which is taking longer than 8 to 10 weeks they mention. I had a PIO card for my daughter and I foolishy applied an OCI card for her too (while applying for a OCI card for my son). Now when I am applying for tourist visa it asks for previous visits to India and when I answer 'Yes', it gives me all kinds fof visas to select from and no option for PIO. Now I am stuck in trying to apply for a tourist visa.
