  • OCI Eligibility

    Good Morning,

I would like to apply for OCI. I was born in India; however, i surrendered my Indian passport to the UK in 1970 after immigrating to the UK. I no longer have my Indian passport.

My wife obtained her OCI last year. Am I eligible for OCI? or do i require an Indian passport?

Marriage Registration Certificate , and Notorized affidavit saying that you surrendered the Indian passport, would be enought to apply for oci.
Applicants applying on the basis of spouse need to submit registered marriage certificate Marriage should have been registered and subsisted
for a continuous period of not less than 2 years immediately preceding the presentation of the application.

application on hold..... "under process "

My friend S applied for oci on legitimate grounds, on granparents basis, submitting necessary proof of Indian Origin, and thus got oci, his daughter also obtained oci , but his wife who is married since dec.1977 and has regsitered marriage certificate
and so thus after staying together and married for many years, makes her eligible to apply for OCI on husbands oci basis. but the case is delayed and kept on "hold " for security reasons..On enquiry with the authority, they say, there is NO time limit to when the secuirty clearance is finished and oci granting team grants clearance for the same. There should be time limit and deadline, so that one know where the applicant stands about his case and process of oci... We got answer from HCI that there is no time limit for "security clearance." thus applicant has to suffer and wait , and we do not know HOW LONG THE WAIT WOULD BE.......

it is very true. i had been keep tell people here, yes you are eligible for OCI, but it is take forever, just like application go into a blackhole in India, you won't get OCI, technically you are not eligible for OCI because OCI is for overseas Indian origin, who is not from overseas of Indian origin how would you dream on getting a OCI??

who is trying to apply if without support documents is also wast of time and money

          application on hold oci..

My freind wife V has applied for oci based on spouse rule on legitimate grounds and documents. it has been more than 60 days, and is on hold and shows "UNDER PROCESS," On enquiring with HCI London, they say, that are waiting for clearance from oci granting team at Delhi. The reason given "security check", and they have given us in writting that there is no limit.means , we spent money and keep on Waiting. and till what period of time, we do not know. Normally if everying is ok and satifactory, we should get oci in 42 days as per normal rule. Can any one know how long we have to wait, is there no quicker way, we can show the proof of indian origin, relative passports oci etc, which is needed and the matter decided . please help. and enlighten us if any one has been through security check and how long it would take....?????

FOREVER long wait! it is a good example for people is trying to apply OCI base on Indian spouse. your OCI status is under review forever long, OCI card is not going issue for 99%. the reason for keeping pending because they don't need to refund the OCI applicant paid, is under process still, just wait...... for ever long. for whom has a PIO card do not apply for OCI, just keep your PIO, I believe they will not cancel it after new update deadline for June. apply visa falks, if you are not Indian origin or lack of support documents.
