  • Travelling to India after Naturalization

I got naturalized this month and got my US passport. I know I need to renounce my Indian passport and then apply for OCI. However, this will take some time. And I need to travel to India for 6-8 months. Can I renounce in India and apply for OCI in India.

Can I travel to India on my Indian passport? Does Indian immigration need to look at my US Green Card (which I do not have anymore) to return to India. I can then renounce Indian passport and get an OCI in India. How long after naturalization do I have to this.

    Has anyone done this before?

    Appreciate your help

After acquiring US nationality, you are not Indian anymore as India doesn't allow dual citizenship. You have to renounce Indian citizenship in US and apply for visa or OCI before travelling to India.
You can be arrested at port of entry in India if you try to use Indian passport after obtaining US passport. My advise is not to take the risk. If they come to know you travelled on invalid passport, you may
never get OCI or Visa to India.

As the previous poster said yes you are CAN'T travel on Indian Passport after you become naturalized. You will be fined $250 per stamp if you use your Indian Passport after obtaining US citizenship+ $195 for renunciation.
