  • PIO for my baby who is in India on visitor visa

    Hi All,

My baby was born in Canada and is currently in India on one year visa which will be expiring soon in about 3 months. My baby's stay in India would be longer so I need to have some extension. I want to apply for PIO card for my baby. Currently, baby and mother both are in India while I am in Canada
    1. Can I apply this from India? If yes, where should I submit application in India?
    2. If PIO is expected to take longer within India can I apply for visa extension in parallel to PIO application?
    3. Any idea on visa extension and PIO process timelines?

    Your help is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any inputs here.

There is no PIO anymore and it is OCI card. Reach out to the nearest FRRO office (http://mha1.nic.in/pdfs/oci-adrs.pdf). Usually FRRO accept OCI application if the baby is in India on long term visa (more than 1 year). In this case it is only 1 year visa, so it is upto them to accept it or not as well as visa extension.
