  • Travelling with minor having OCI U sticker on old passport and OCI card

    Hi

My daughter has got an OCI on old UK passport and had new UK passport issued on Mar 2015.

I am planing to travelling to UK from Delhi next week with our daughter, will it be OK if I carry both passports and and the OCI card?

I read somewhere that for minors below 20 years age OCI needs to be transferred to new card.

Has any of travelled with their kids rcently on similar situation?

Yes, you are required to transfer OCI (a harrowing experience, take it from me!!) to the new passport.
Having said that I have heard of many stories where people have traveled with both old and new passport and OCI card and been admitted into India. It is one of those situations where the law says something, but it is not always implemented strictly. I have also heard of (although rarely) running into issues at the Indian airport, and even some airlines causing issues. So, I am afraid the safer option is to transfer OCI card to new passport, but if you do travel without doing that more than likely you will not face any issues. Sorry, if I made you even more confused and worried, but that is what I know.

you May able to travel with 3 legal documents

contact your airline agent first, if they say yes then you can travel with these three travel documents. otherwise apply E-visa and oci at the same time. remember DO NOT send your original support documents and travel documents to apply OCI if you are in San Francisco Jurisdiction.

        best regards

My minor child's Canadian passport is up for renewal in a few months. I am in Canada and here the process of transferring OCI from old passport to new passport is immensely difficult and it is just like obtaining a new OCI. I don't understand what is wrong with Indian bureaucracy. When they have checked all original documents prior to issuing original OCI, why does one have to resubmit a huge checklist of ORIGINAL documents with upload a bunch of self-attested photocopies again and again. Mr. Modi says he has made things simple but the reality is that things have become more difficult, I would say way more difficult.

In my opinion and really if the Government wants to make it easy, OCI renewal should be a simplified process where one should only have to provide copies of old passport, new passport and OCI card. But then this would be asking for too much from Indian bureaucracy which likes to make things really complicated and difficult. I don't understand why on earth it is so freaking difficult for them to simplify this process.

I almost feel like not renewing my child's OCI and just applying for an e-visa every time I have to visit the motherland. But then the e-visa is only good for 30 days which becomes an issue if one has to stay a little bit longer there.

One of my friends told me that we can not apply for EVISA if OCI/PIO already exists. Not sure how credible this info is but......
