Passport renewal problem adding spouse

Hello all,

My passport is going to expire in July,2016 and its current status is single and to renew the passport ( and change the status to Married )consulate requires a Marriage certificate.

i was married in India couple of years back, due to tight schedule i did not apply for marriage certificate.

Can i apply passport with Single status and reapply once i get the marriage certificate.

Can anyone please tell me the options i have now ?

I think you can get a single and then change it once you get the certificate. You will have to pay for miscellaneous service though. But you have time. Why dont you get the marriage certificate now?

Are you sure i can apply with Single status ? I have to go India to get the marriage certificate, my H1B is still in process and i cannot travel to india now.

Why would you have to go to get your marriage certificate? Can you not try and ask your relatives to get it for you? A marriage certificate is a copy of data from the Municipal registry , which the Registrar stamps and signs. You not going does not prove you did not marry
