OCI Re-issue for New Passport - US Passport

Hello,

Has anyone travelled to India without renewing the OCI after re-issue of passport? I know the rule is to get a new OCI card each time the passport is renewed before 21 years. Are they really enforcing it?

I am planning to travel but do not have enough time to renew the OCI since it could take few weeks. This is for a minor child (17 years) whose OCI card was issued 10 years ago.

We are going to carry the old passports (there are 2 old passports), OCI card and new passport.

Please let me know if you have travelled recently and share your experience.

Hello - I'm in the same situation, so i spoke FRRO office in Chennai and they confirmed that you need to have the old passport (which have the U Visa Stamping), existing OCI and the new passport. They mentioned that there shouldn't be any issue. Also, they recommend to apply of reissue of OCI when return back from India. Hope this helps. Based on recent change (U VISA not being affixed on passport), logically, no need renew. You need to carry old passport, new passport and OCI card. However logic wont make sense with Indian embassy.. So use your own judgement..

obviously, their question is regarding the "old OCI" which has U-visa on the expired passport. for any question regarding travel on multiple ppt please refer to your airline, do not rely on people's experience.
