  • PIO to OCI compulsory or not?

Having read all the official online posts I am still confused:

    1) Is the conversion absolutely compulsory?
    1) If yes, if one does not apply for an OCI will the existing PIO card be invalidated?
    2) If not, will the existing PIO card remain valid until its expiry date?

Much obliged for your kind reply Proonindiandoc. If applied on some other basis, is conversion still only a recommendation?

Sorry for example for a minor or for those of Indian origin. What I meant was irrespective of the basis of the PIO to OCI application (such as for a spouse, a minor, or a person of Indian origin) is the proposed conversion still only a recommendation?

only recommend to applicant who was Indian origin, parents or grand parents (with birth certificate). if apply basis of Indian origin just keep your PIO card, it should be valid as life long visa. the June deadline just apply to apply OCI in lieu of PIO, not meaning of not valid from that date.

I remember reading somewhere that an OCI needs to surrender the PIO?

Obviously GOI wants everyone on OCI if not now pretty soon. Why wait until you are forced to change? I would just get it done though it is a painful process. You can find so many threads in this forum asking the same question.

I can see them asking for the PIO card back when issuing an OCI, but that would be fine, thanks Proonindiandoc.

I would tend to agree, thanks Milli.

PIO will be called for match up only, not at the initial process
