  • Varying times for OCI transit from Delhi to US Consulates

Once an OCI is published in Delhi, it is Dispatched From MOIA (OCI ) NEW DELHI. The next step in the process is that it is received at the consulate in the US (SFO, Atlanta, NY etc.) I am noticing that the timings seem to vary wildly. For eg., it seems to come to Atlanta/NY etc. in about 4-5 days. SFO is taking upto 17 days!!!

Does anyone know why that is the case (other than the sweeping statement that each center is different)? Is the delay in the SF consulate or do our friends in CKGS have something to do with it?

Lazy or booked, they certainly seem to taking their time Sent from Delhi on the 22nd of April. Today is the 9th of May and there is no change.

If the Government of India OCI website has not changed, then safe to assume that the consulate folks are sitting on their asses and not CKGS or is it possible that CKGS is sitting on it?

If anything, I have seen Houston etc. get it in five days. So you definitely have an issue. Yesterday, I called CKGS again and one of their agents expressed great surprise at the delay in my doc not having reached. He has raised an escalation and asked for 48 hours. I am not optimistic about this. There is zero predictability in this process If you make any headway, please do share.

how much time it takes once Sent to Delhi, India’ from the Indian Embassy US

I got an email on Feb 23'16 that my application is recieved but due to the missing document it was on hold till March 8'16. Now, I got an email that my application is in India "Your OCI application has now been ‘Sent to Delhi, India’ from the Indian Embassy/ Consulate in the USA for further securitization and processing." but it says the next update will be in 6 to 8 weeks????? I already bought my tickets for June end. What do they mean by that?, as they say it takes 2-3months on their website and I guess I did it on time??? I called Washington center and the guy says it take 60 to 80 working days??? Can someone help me and give me right information and what should I do? someone said he got 6 months VISA but when I try it only gives me 10yrs VISA option??? pls help

The timing is hard to predict, but one thing I'd recommend is to check the GOI website, not the CKGS site at this stage: https://passport.gov.in/oci/statusEnqury

I sent a mail to Houston Vice Consul and he said - "These must have been received by now. It will take time to upload these to system. Hence, if you wish to collect the same in person, then please visit the Consulate on any working day between 0930 hours to 1630 hours with the original documents for match up (i.e. US Passport, PIO card)."

So I am heading to Houston to collect directly. I will post my experience after the trip.

Good luck. I took your cue and wrote to the SF Vice Consul. Let's see if they respond. At this point, my optimism has been turned on its head. I have no hopes from this system I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

I know how you feel. My status doesn't say reached in houston, but I am anyway going to tent outside consulate/CKGS and if needed do a dharna to get that damn card.

                      Good luck to you also.

Since we last spoke, at least my status changed to 'received in SFO'. I am now on a call to CKGS to explore options on how I could pick it up sooner rather than send passport and then wait for it. I live in Seattle but don't mind a day trip to SF if there's surety that the problem can be solved. I am glad you got the mail from the Vice consul. Because I am not local to SF, I am not willing to just show up there without surety that it will happen.

The vice consul didn't say for sure my cards are in consulate. What he said though is "These must have been received by now. It will take time to upload these to system". So I am just hoping the cards reached Houston as MOIA sent the cards on 29-Apr from New Delhi.

I am not technically a local to Houston as I live in Dallas. Although mine is 5 hour trip unlike yours.
