why would you change the dob?? was an error or what, it is not call change if printed by error

My parents had given a different compared to original dob in my school certificate which was used later to obtain passport. Now I want to correct it according to birth certificate.

I have applied for a new passport in this case. That was 10 years ago

which passport? US or Indian? I had to do this for similar reason- my DOB in all my official documents was a certain date, but when i finally got my BirthCert, it was off by one year.
