Is it OK to ship my original passport to CKGS?

I need to renew my passport. Instead of walk-in, I am thinking of shipping the application materials. But, I am now realizing it might not be safe to ship the original passport. I am worried that I might lose the passport in shipping. Has anbody used this service with CKGS before? Any advice?

Most of them are mailing in their passports.
