  • PIO Card Question

I have a question related to PIO card. I got a PIO card for my son few months and we are back to india in Sept 2005. We have stayed more than 180 days till now in india. I have seen following points in 'immihelp.com' related to PIO card (under advantages Section)..
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
    2. PIO Card Holder will be exempted from the requirement of registration if his stay in India does not exceed 180 days.

    3. In the event of continuous stay in India of the PIO Card holder exceeding 180 days, he/she shall have to get himself/herself registered within 30 days of the expiry of 180 days with the concerned Foreigners Registration Officer at District Headquarter.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

Can someone explain the following ?
    1. Is that the registration (in Point 3) is mandatory ?
    2. How does that registration needs to be done (How, Where) ?
    3. It says we need to complete the registration within 180 days, but it is already crossed 180 days. Is it possible to do it now ? Any problems of not doing that registration ?undefined

    Thanks in Advance.
    Regards

This is what I read a while ago, you may want verify this.

    1. Yes FRRO registration is mandatory if you are 16 or older. If your son is under 16, you don't need to register him with frro (this applies to any Indian visa, not just PIO).
    2. Find FRRO office close to you and they will tell you what you need to do. I heard you can also register with a local police official (SP or commissioner office)
    3. If you are 16 or older, you need to register within 30 days after 180 days. Not sure what happens if you don't register within this timeframe.
