Very confusing!! Please help

Hello,
We live in Charlotte, NC(DC center). I want to apply for OCI for my 5 mo little one. One of my friends says that they sent original passports of parents to Atlanta Center while applying for OCI for their little one.

Do I have to send original passports of both the parents?

Does the parents have to have work permit valid for 6 months(H1B visa expiry in April 2017 but will apply for extension).

I applied from houston for my 2 months old kid. I didnt sent my passport as well as my wife passport for kids OCI card to embassy. Once all the OCI process has been completed , at match up stage you need to send your kids Passport alone.

And i'm not sure on parents VISA status. You can call to CKGS customer care they will provide you more details.

OCI is taking minimum 2 to 3 months to complete , if you font have any travel plan within 2 to 3 months you can apply.

You need at least 3 months of visa validity. Receipt notices are not accepted.Only I797A is considered for non-US parents proof of stay.

For DC , yes we sent original Indian passport of both parents in August for OCI minor. My experience - Before sending our passports, I spoke to alteast 4 people, all of them confirmed , original passport of parents are needed (also you can find that in their checklist that original + self attested copy). Since we did not receive our original passports back, I called ckgs after 3weeks and the person on phone asked me "why did you send original passport of parents? Embassy never asks for original passport !!!" Though it was a contradicting response, he then helped to create a ticket and we got the passport in next few days while the OCI was still processing at Embassy.
Their process/people are really confusing. Hope this helps.
