  • CKGS form requesting Spouses old Indian passport number, we do not have it

I have all documents for the OCI - my old Indian passport (issued in 1980, I took US citizenship in 1984). My spouse is a US citizen born in India, has no desire/need for OCI. I desperately need the OCI for some property matters.

The GKGS online form will not complete as it asks "Has the spouse held the nationality of any country other than the present nationality?" "If so, give the details including the periods"

Then, it asks for the spouse's old Indian passport number!!

She was born in India, but has been US citizen since age 6. She does not have the old Indian passport or any means of obtaining the old passport number.

Current nationality is USA, why is SPOUSE'S former nationality details and Indian passport number needed?
What if I don't have her old Indian passport? Is there any options?

Just bypass it by entering 12345. that is only for CKGS silly detail by no reason.

      Is that what you did?
I too am in similar situation, my parents became citizens of USA in 1994 and no longer have their passports or records and the CKGS Step 3 is asking for their passport info. Should I just put in 12345 type answer to move on?
      Have others done that?

I wonder how I will need to handle this "Renunciation" thing when I get to that step.
      Thanks

If anyone else has diff options, please share.

then my question is, you do not have the Indian passport, what kind of Indian document are you going to produce? and you should answer the question for your Indian passport with lost, for what reason you hve to fill out the Indian passport number for yourself? last question, have you renounced your Indian citizenship? if not, you must apply the Renunciation with OCI, and the payment receipt must show with service of OCI and Renunciation. cannot be separate service and payment.

Lot of new laws and regulations taking places in India. The demonetization effect itself best for Indians national interest. This will maintain best development for national India. But the people who left India, may be get more associations to the Indian nationals staying for support service, one of the good company deals with expatriates asset management in India.

I am planning to apply for "Renunciation" soon.

I was naturalized 20 years ago. IIRC, the US government asked us to submit our Indian passports for destruction at time of naturalization. And I dont have a copy.

I was going through a test run of "Renunciation" application at CKGS. One of the initial questions is, "Was your Indian Passport surrendered at Naturalization?" I checked YES.

But after completing Page 1 questions and submitting the form, the next page "Document Checklist" indicates that "Indian Passport" is one of the "Mandatory Documents"/

Hopefully this is a bug in the CKGS. I have submitted a complaint to them and waiting for response.

                  Addressing the questions:
                  - No, we dont have our old Indian passports
                  - Documents to show for proof are:
                  1) Naturalization which states "Country of former Nationality: India"
                  2) Photocopy of Marriage Certificate from India
                  3) Photocopy of Affidavit from my Grandmother stating a) my mother does not have a birth certificate and that b) I am her son with my DOB
                  4) A copy of a previous 10y India Tourist Visa from my previous US Passport (I'm seeking 10y Visa, not OCI)
                  - I did answer with "Lost" for my old Indian passport, but the CKGS form still asks for Indian passport, I went with bogus 99999 and attached a sticky note stating I dont have it and online form required this mandatory field
                  - I have not renounced my Indian citizenship as the last time I got a 10y Visa as I dont recall that was required in ~2005 timeframe
                  - I applied for "Visa , Renunciation & Shipping" option and paid accordingly.

Today I received notice from CKGS they received my Renunciation back with PADS - Provide Additional Documents.
Not sure what to do as I dont have anything else.

                  Suggestions?

for proof of Indian origin, documents from 1-4 are none of eligible.

                      Understood.

                      Odd though,
I was applying for 10y Tourist Visa and CKGS process said I need Renunciation, so did it together. As mentioned, the Renunciation says I need to provide supporting docs, but CKGS sent me back my passport the next day (Renunciation is still in "HOLD" phase waiting for me to provide docs).

I was upset with them for sending passport. It arrived today, and lo and behold, it has the 10y Visa issued!
                      For both wife and I.
Despite both having Renunciation in "HOLD" state needing docs (that we dont have).

Anyway, a question I have now is: why do I need Renunciation?
