  • Travel to India after Dec, 2016 with PIO card

    Hi,
I'm traveling to India in Jan,2017. Could anyone please help me?

    1. Can I travel with PIO card to Indian in Jan,2017?

    2. Do I need to apply for OCI card? is it mandatory?

    3. I read PIO card is valid until the expiration of the passport. Is it true? The information in the website is not clear and when I called the number in the embassy website, no-one is answering the phone.

    4. Do I need to renew the OCI every time I renew the passport?

    Appreciate any help on this.

    Thanks!

You can travel with PIO card. It's valid until expiry date. Only one thing you MUST do is carry the passport for which PIO card was issued. (in case you have new passport).

My son reached Mumbai about 8 hours ago with PIO card and two passports (current and one that he had on which PIO card was issued).

Going to Chennai with PIO card

Anyone went to Chennai with PIO recently? My PIO car is valid till 2027. With all these OCI talks, it is confusing and not sure if officials in all the airport treat us same.
I am going there end of Jan and not sure if I can take the risk if I am not sure. Please help...

the in lieu of PIO card process had been extended again, as I said long time ago, and will be another extension after this one, 90% sure. plus, don't trust whatever sources that saying PIO card must swap to OCI, NOT AT ALL, PIO card is valid as long as the oci. you can do the in lieu of PIO or keep it.

We went to India Dec 8th and returned Jan 8th. My son is on PIO. Didn't have any issue. While entering Chennai, immigration officer said "you should change PIO to OCI" just as an information.

Also we took a trip to Malaysia via Trivandrum, no questions about PIO anywhere.

I don't see any issue using PIO.
