  • Travelling Without Expired Passport on Greencard, Re-entering USA

Hi, I need serious help/advise. I have USA greencard and I just travelled to India fine without my expired passport. On the POE in India they asked for my older passport and gave me some hard time but after all they let me enter India. My concern is what will happen when I try to re-enter into USA? I do have greencard and my new passport. But i don't have my expired passport which has the stamp from last entry into USA. Will I be fine just by showing my GC and newer passport? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

With a GC, you technically don't even need a passport to enter the US. Any passport is fine.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

I don't really understand why India immigration asked for expired passport. Usually you have to present only the current valid passport. I personally never carried expired passports while travelling. While coming back you just need to show current valid Indian passport to US immigration along with valid GC. They have all your port of entry information in their system (date of leaving and date of entering, class of admission etc) and never ask for physical stamps in the passport.
