  • Renouncing Indian Citizenship - Cancellation stamp date question on CKGS site

    Hello,

I became a US Citizen in Feb 2008 (US passport issued in March 2008). Originally born and raised in India. I then got my Indian 10 year visa in October 2008. All's good... till now

I decided to apply for OCI and realized that I need to renounce my Indian citizenship. To renounce it on CKGS website (https://www.in.ckgs.us/renunciation/#cancelStampDateDiv), there is a set of workflow like questions. After I select the option for "Only Cancellation" for question "Does it have a Cancelled stamp due to", it asks for "Cancelled stamp date" Click image for larger version

Without inserting some date, it won't let me move forward with application!!!

What should I do? Should I select the date my Indian Visa was issued (October xx 2008) as my cancel date stamp?

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks,

In the absence of cancelled date on your Indian PP, I would go with what you are suggesting - select the date your Indian Visa was issued as cancelled date.
    Application Center: CKGS NY
    OCI
Feb 3, 2017 -Application Received & Verification Complete
Feb 6 -'Under Process' at CKGS
Feb 7 -In-Transit & Under Process at Consulate
Feb 8 -Govt of India: Date Of Acknowledgment
    -Documents Printing Status: UNDER-PROCESS

    RENUNCIATION
Feb 3,2017 -Application Received & Verification Complete
Feb 6 -'Under Process' at CKGS
Feb 7 -In-Transit & Under Process at Consulate
Feb 8 -'Reviewed' by Consulate and ‘In Transit’ to CKGS
