Confused: Is Renunciation and Cancelling passport(with 'cancelled' stamp) the same???

Morn' peeps,
Super confused If I need to cancel/renounce before sending in my appln.
So if I pick the OCI + Renunciation option, at the end of processing which of the following do I get back?

1.Indian Passport(IP) would be returned with a cancelled stamp on it along with a Renunciation certificate
2.IP with "No" cancelled stamp and a Renunciation certificate
3.Just the IP with cancelled stamp?
4.Just the Renunciation certificate

Those on the same 'confused' boat(more like a ship), I want to share what I learnt from an agent- So the original Indian passport is returned with a 'cancelled due to nat. process' stamp along with a "certificate" that's nothing more than a word document-ish
The US passport is returned the following week, followed by OCI card(1+ month).
