Friends,
Here is my experience for OCI for my daughter:
1. Send the documents- 2 copies to consulate in NY in 1st week of april 2006.
2. Checked the site..the status changed to granted in last week of may 2006.
3. Went there personally in 1st week of june to collect the OCI document.
Went there ar 10:30 they took the passport and told me to come between 12:30 and 1:00.
4. Went there at that time and collected the passport.
5. It is a passport like document stapled to US passport with the OCI ceritifcate and a life long visa.
Some notes:
1. Do not send $15 for postage as it is better to go there yourself.
2. Consulate does not respond to your email nor will they answer the phone. I tried many times and it did not help. so best bet is to keep on checking their website for notification.
One question..On VISA they have the name of my daughter as first-middle-last but the column says "surname/given names"..does it matter that they screwed up the order?
Thanks..Hope this helps others.
Regards
