  • 'OCI in-lieu-of PIO' for US-born minor applying with a new US passport

    Hello,

    1) When applying for OCI in-lieu-of PIO for US born minor, do we need to send original PIO and original US current passport of the minor? The checklist asks for notarized copies only.

    2) My son's PIO card has his old US passport referenced in the last page of PIO card. The check list asks for a copy of new US passport, but if we don't send the copies of old US passport along with copies of new US passport, how will they verify the identify of the applicant? I'm concerned that they may reject the application or asks for copies of the old passport, if the copies of the old passport was not sent.

    3) Does the 'OCI in lieu of PIO' for US born minor require parents'(Indian citizens) passport copies to be included? The check list didn't ask for it, but immihelp says parents' passport copies, work visa/EAD, and child's US birth certificate need to be included. is this correct?

    4) Do we need to opt for any miscellaneous service such as a) change of appearance, and b) passport particular changes, since his appearance has changed from the PIO card, and he got a new US passport?

Just follow the checklist. Copy means copy, original means original, notrarized means notarized.

For minors, their appearence will change. IMO, that is why the passport has to be renewed frequently. So, no miscellaneous service required, unless you have change in any of the particulars you use in the application form (obviously new passport number, heoght and weight will change, that is the point of renewing frequently)

      1 - I did not send
2 - I had the same question but based on the checklist didn't bother to send a copy of the old passport
3 - Based on the checklist, parent's passport is not required. But when you go to the Gov. of India website you will have to upload your OCI. Because I uploaded the OCI, I sent a copy to CKGS.
4 - Well, I opted for this because my son's PIO had my old address, old photo, old passport number.
But I think it is not necessary. This is because when you go to Gov. Of India website and try to upload documents for miscellaneous service, it clearly states that this is only applicable to individuals with an existing OCI.
Because of this discrepancy I sent a letter along with the screen shot of the information from Gov. Of India web page when sending the documents to CKGS.
It's a lot of paper work.
Please let us know how it goes.
