I have been living in the US for seven-and-a-half years now on various visas (first F1 then OPT and then H1B). I recently visited India and got a new H1B visa that is valid till June 2009. My passport expires on October 21, 2007. I tried getting it renewed here in India but was advised to do so in the US as the process is simpler and quicker. My question is: Do I need six months minimum vailidity period on my passport to re-enter the US? What if I have to extend my vacation due to unforeseen circumstances beyond April 18th,2007 (the date that I am scheduled to leave). Will I be denied entry based on my passport and the absence of minimum six months period remaining on my passport? Please let me know.
