Change of name and address in Indian Passport

Hi

I am an Indian national in Atlanta,USA with F1 student visa. I want to do two corrections in my Indian passport:
1. I want to change my name. My last name has spaces in between and I am facing lot of problems here. I would want to shorten my name by omitting two words.
2. I want to change my address in passport. The permanant address given at the time of Passport issue (2001) has changed. Also, my present address is in US.Atleast, I would want to change my permanant address.[/B]Can I do the following corrections here in US?[/B]In case of name change, do I need to advertise it in two newspapers before applying for it?(it was mentioned in the Houstan Indian Consul website)
Are there any hassles involved in doing the address and name change here or it is better to do it in India?
If I want to do the changes in any regional passport office in India, I need to be there for long and cant give the present US address..

Hi Ram,

I am currently in the exact same situation as you were in-about 3 years ago. Hope you got this fixed.

Would you please share what you ended up doing? I had filed a petition and gotten orders for my name change in the court here. However, I believe I have to still get it changed in Social security office and on my indian passport. Did you have to change your name in Indian consulate before changing it in SSN office? What all formalities/documents were required?

Please help by sharing your experience and information/process.
