Passport/PIO Card

Hi,

My son is 4 months old. He is born in USA.We are planning to visit India
and stay for six months. Can he travel to India without his passport/PIO
card? If yes how long can he stay in India. If not what is the procedure /
eligibility.

He needs a US passport and either Indian visa or PIO card.
