  • Help: OCI - could this cause a problem in India

    Hello,

I had applied for OCI at Indian consulate at Chicago and was leaving for India. Unfortunately I did not get it on time and so got single entry 6 month India visa and went to India.

After reaching India I got notice that my OCI is ready and I sent my passport to Chicago and got the OCI visa and the OCI card.

Will this cause any problems when I leave India? Should I have got the OCI from India? Just worred about running into Indian bureacracy and do not want to break any laws.

If anybody else did this and it was fine, please let me know.

    Thanks

    No

From what you've mentioned, I gather that you have got your US passport with you, you've got your OCI visa stamped as well as the OCI booklet.

Now, you also have that six month visa that you got for your immediate travel to India. Assume that at this time of leaving India you do have your US passport with you.

You should not have any problems whatsoever, whether you're leaving India or travelling back to the country.

Nope, you're not breaking any laws anywhere. I am surprised that you did not wait to get back to US to get your OCI cards and have the passport stamped. CGI in US will keep your OCI card with them safely for more than a year and you shouldn't have worried.

The risky part was sending the passport internationally and getting is back to you in India.

    Good luck.
