DOB error on PIO card..Please help

Hello

I applied for a PIO card for my child via mail at the Consulate General of India, New York. It took about 20 days. I received the PIO card yesterday and noticed that the date was entered incorrectly as "17 Jun 2007" instead of "11 Jun 2007". Made numerous calls but unsuccessful in getting to a live person. Emailed [email protected], and the reply advises that I mail the PIO card for necessary correction.

I am scheduled to travel to India mid-Jan 2008 and am concerned that it might get stuck.

US Passport information has been entered correctly on the PIO card. Infact, photo on US passport and PIO is same. Is it advisable to travel with this issue? Has anyone travelled with minor typos on PIO like this one?

Go personally to CGI for correction ...

It will be a problem for you during travel if the DOB is incorrect. You will face unnecessary issues upon landing in India and they may possibly harass you.

You can try your luck, if you wish.

Maybe a printout of the email from the consulate stating that you need to re-send the PIO for date correction may help...when you arrive in India.. proof that it was not your fault...also Maybe if you have a hand held PDA/mobile you may access your inbox(assuming a wi-fi hot spot etc... exists in the airport or they allow net access)..... and show the email from the consulate ..at the airport....proof that its not a made up printout and tough to spoof an embassy email i would assume...

Process to correct errors/mistakes on PIO card

Went to CGI NY yesterday and got it fixed @ counter# 8 (Information Counter). It took less than 30 min for getting it corrected.

A new PIO card was NOT issued, but a note has been made on Page 2 as follows
OBSERVATION
HOLDER'S DATE OF BIRTH ON FIRST PAGE SHOULD READ AS: 11 JUN 2007
