traveling with newborn

This is my close friend situation. She is due next month and want to travel after delivery with baby to India. She want Indian citizenship for baby.

(1) What documents does she absolutely need for baby? she wants to travel
ASAP after birth along with baby?
(2) Can she travel with only birth certificate and get baby's indian passport in
india?

I dont think that is possible. Birth Certificate it self takes a 4-5 weeks, after that to get an expedited passport she will have to get it from Indian embassy itself.

But if she plans to come back to USA they will have to apply for US passport as US consulate does not issue Visas for US Born babies.

I think my friend has clear understanding that birth certificate and US passport is must since they are considering to return to US.

Since they are planning to travel India for few months so do you think they have to get the PIO card also or is it OK to travel without PIO?

they can get an Indian visa on th same day, if they goto consulate there is an online appt system in place now
