I recently got my OCI card and applied for a NRI certificate for the purpose of education in India for my Son.
The consular general of India denied my application saying that OCIs are not eligible for NRI certificate.
I believe as per benefits for OCI card holders, they are to be treated in par with NRIs for educational purposes.
The college in India where I am seeking admission is asking NRI certificate for the Father ( because I am the sponsor), and they are not accepting the OCI card or don't understand the rules related to OCI.., they are used to see only the NRI certificate for students to be considered under NRI quota.
Anyone know whether the decision by the CGI was correct?, or what I can do to show that I am an NRI for the purpose of education/admission to colleges.
I paid the NRI quota fees already to reserve the seat and it was a heavy amount which I will not get back, and they will deny the admission if NRI certificate is not given.
I am in big trouble, any help/advice highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
babu
