  • Lost Passport

    Hi

My Husband's passport would expire on July 2008, and hence he sent his passport renewal application along with all the documents + old passport to Indian consulate in New York city on April 28th, they recieved the application on

May 1st and after that for a month there was no news from Indian consulate. He tried to call them on June 1st and they said they are not able to find his information and advised him to come to NYC. When he went to NYC, after a day long wait, he was told that his new passport was issued on 18th May but after that they do not have his information, thay again advised him to wait for sometime to see if the passport would arrive by mail, though we paid for express mail delivery. We waited until this week and then pursuaded them to send us a new passport which they sent yesterday, in the new passport it is stamped that the old passport has been lost. Now my question is whenever an important document like passport is lost or stolen, we should lodge a FIR, which we did not do in this case since even yesterday we were not sure what happened to our passport.

Should we do a FIR saying that his old passport was lost in mail on its way from the Indian consulate? We would be very thankful if someone can advise us on this.

    Thanks
