  • Need help with PIO application

Hi. I am a person of Indian origin who has been naturalized. My husband is American and we are trying to get him a PIO card before our trip to India. I currently do not have an OCI or a PIO card. Just a 10 year visa to India and a US passport. But we have questions around what paperwork do we need to send to get my husbands PIO application processed. The instructions are confusing about the paperwork required for spouses of people with indian origin. Do we need to send originals of any of the paperwork? passports? please help. we have been trying to call someone for answers for days but nobody ever answers the phone!
    thanks a lot

I am an Indian citizen and my wife is a US citizen. We applied for her PIO card based upon her marriage to me. Remember that there is an eligibility requirement that it should have been a year or more since your marriage. Make sure that you find out for sure from the Consulate. You will need to prove that you, your parents, grandparents, OR great-grandparents were Indian citizens at some point. If you are independently eligible for the PIO card, then so is your spouse. Accepted documents are birth certificate, or passport. We sent notarized copies of everything to the Chicago CGI. Hope this helps. Good luck.
