  • Issue with OCI..Need help badly

My fiancee had applied for OCI. The status is shown currently as follows in the site:

    Date Of Acknowledgment 15-OCT-2008
    Registration Status UnderProcess
    Photo/Signature Scanned On 17-OCT-2008
    Documents Printing Status NOT PRINTED
Documents Dispatched to Concerned Mission/Office on NOT DISPATCHED
Documents Received at HOUSTON NOT YET

She needs to come to India on Dec 18th. Its very imp that she arrives in India either as OCI or PIO. Reading the previous threads, it sounds OCI may not be ready by then. Can we apply for PIO now as it seems PIO will be ready in 4 weeks time? Wouldn't applying for PIO card create confusion to the officials as we have already applied for OCI?

Will it help if we go to Houston in person and check? Bcoz they dont attend the phone calls.

Any help/suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks.

    For any immediate ...

... travel to India you can get a one time six month visitor visa the same day when you apply.

By the time she returns, your OCI should be ready.

Also, if you do not pick up your OCI, CGI keeps it with them for upto two years.

Thanks Knowledable...The issue is I am in London and she needs to be a OCI/PIO card holder when she arrives in India so as to apply for the UK dependant visa. And without the dependant visa, she can't work in the UK...

Can she apply for PIO now at Houston?

Also, is there any chance she can have the OCI stamping done in India (she applied OCI at Houston, can go to India in a visiting visa as you mentioned and then get the stamping done there).

Thanks a lot for understanding our issue..

        I am sorry ...

... but I am not sure of the UK visa requirements.

She can surely apply for a PIO in Houston, provided she gets it in time. If there's a delay herein too, then you're in cream of tomato soup!

If you re-direct OCI to India, it will create a bigger mess for you. You know how things work in India.

What is the dependency of UK visa on OCI/PIO card?

People used to get UK dependent visa even when OCI/PIO didn't exist.

          Can you please explain?

Thanks immihelp. My fiancee is a US citizen. My UK visa and her dependant visa for UK are applied by my Indian company. They can do it only from India and their rulebook says the applicants should atleast be a resident permit holder (OCI or PIO) in India. This means she can't apply for the dependant visa if she is on a visiting visa to India.
