I would like to know what documents need to be shown to the Officials in the Indian Embassy in Uk to apply for PIO card.
According to the information we have any one who can prove that his/ her parents or grand parents were of Indian Origin can apply.
But in a recent case of one of my friends the application was turned down because he could not produce his parents passports. He was also told that the names stated on his parents Naturalisation certificate may or may not be those of his parents, although both parents names are clearly stated on the applicant's birth certificate. Both his parents were born and broght up in India in the early part of 20th century when no birth certificates were issued. They later migrated to East Africa where they aquired British Citizenship. At the time of Naturalisation their passports were surrendered to the Indian Embassy in Kenya ( Arround 1952 )
My friend ( applicant ) has copies of the following documents to prove that his parents were of indian origin.
1. His own Birth Certificate where his parents and Grand Parents names are mentioned.
2. A copy of his parents Naturalisation Cerificate when they aquired British Nationality
This documents also state very clearlty that his parents original citizenship was Indian and that they were born in India to Indian Parents.
3. A copy of his parent's will, in which property they had in India is also mentioned.
4. Copies of affidevits prepared in India to register property and to show details of their birth ( as no birth certificates were issued in those days )
In such cases where the Parents Indian Passports were surrendered to Indian Embassy more than half a century ago how can one prove anything?
