How long can I stay in India ?

Hello there,
I got my US citizenship in July . I applied for a 10 year Indian visa within a week and then travelled to India. Meanwhile I had applied for my OCI card too.
Right now I am in India. My OCI card has arrived in the Chicago Indian Consulate
but as my passport is here with me and am here I can't collect it until I go back which am planning to do in another 3 weeks.

Now my question is,I am studying in India and have been here for 5 months now.How long can I stay here ? Does my 6 month period start from the day I got my visa or from the day I landed in India ?

Unless ...

... you have your OCI card with you, your visa, I believe, allows you to stay in India for six months from the day you landed in India.
