Help Required for Citizenship Questions
Hi All,
I am on L1 Visa and my wife is on dependent L2 Visa. She is pregnant and we are expecting birth by May 09. As of now we are considering option of having birth here in USA. However, we are more concerned about new born baby's Non-Indian status in India and future expenses because of this (we are eventually going to go back to India..in a yr or two). I already have gone through this forum and found answers and information for most of the questions...still have few as below...
Processing Indian Passport:
What if we process Indian passport for the new born, then take him/her back to India and never travels back to USA (at least till the age of 18yrs). In that case, can baby be treated as INDIAN CITIZEN at least in India?
If yes, then can he/she make decision on/after 18yrs and choose US Citizenship, revoking Indian Passport & citizenship? Or other way round?
Processing US Passport & PIO:
I understand that new born is only eligible for PIO and PIO can apply for Indian Citizenship after being ordinarily resident of India for 7 yrs. If this is the case
What if we get US Passport and PIO for baby, go back to India say after 1 yr, after that baby stays in India for 7 yrs...In this case, can he/she get Indian citizenship???? (I am really doubtful about this because in this case he/she will still have US Passport..)
If yes, then can he/she make decision on/after 18yrs and choose US Citizenship, revoking Indian citizenship? Or other way round?
Please help me answering these questions. Any additional Opinion is most welcome.
