Indian Passport Renewal - Expiry on Sep 2009

Hello,

Can any one please help me to provide me the below information for Passport renewal. I cam to know that we can do online application.

1) Is it safe sending the original passport and other documents for Passport renewal by mail (FedEx).
2) In how many days we will get back the Renewed Passport.
3) Also wanted to know what all documents has to be send. I am on H1-B Visa. I stay as a PG in my friends house, what address proof i can send.
I have only one address proof that is Bank Statements. Is is sufficient or has to be 2 proofs.
4) Passport Photo requirements.

I am GC holder, my Indian passport will expire in Aug 2009. My current passport has my old information (which was valid when I applied for it in 1999) however certain facts has been changed since then. Now to apply for renewal of passport, While filing out the form online,
1. Service desired: whther it will be 'reissue passport' or 'fresh passport'?
2. Profession: at that time, I was student, but now I am engineer in USA, no job title in India though. what should I write in there then?
3. Address to be printed in the passport: I beleve, it should be my 'current address in USA'? (I will be including my US driving license and US utility bills to support the claim). But my old passport has the address of my engineering college in India. Also, in my originak current passport, my home town address was not mentioned. Can I include it in the section 'other address'. Do I need any proof to support that, if yes, then what it will be?
4. Marital status has been changed from single to married since then. I have not updated my old current passport with my spouse name. If I have to include my spouse name to my renewed passport, I belive 'marriage certificate' would suffice the purpose?
