  • OCI Application process

    Hello all,

    Thanks for this invaluable forum.

I am finding conflicting information about the OCI application process. Here are my details. Could some one please outline what is the correct application process?

Myself, wife, son: US passport holder, PIO card holder
Daughther: US passport holder, no PIO card

I want to apply to convert the three PIOs to OCI and get a fresh OCI for my daughter. I live in the jurisdiction of the SF CGI.

Here is what I think is needed:

For the three PIO card holders:
    - Application (part A)
    - five photos
    - self-attested copy of US passport (first page)
    - self-attested copy of PIO card (first page)
    - question - do I need to send copies of my and my wife's INDIAN passports?

For my daughter - the same as above, except copy of PIO card (since she does not have one)

Single part B that applies to all family members.

    money order = (3 * $25) + $275 = $350
    self-addressed USPS envelope for $16.50

The SF CGI website says I need to send original passports along with the applications. Do they accept applications with only self-attested copies?

Did I miss anything or get something wrong?

    Thanks in advance!

    1. Yes, you have to send the copies of your and your wife's Indian passports.

    2. You don't send passport along with OCI application. You will have to send it later when they tell you to do so. Read https:///oci-card/procedure-granting...ation-oci.html You can't get OCI just with photocopies because OCI has two parts.
    A. Registration certificate - Separate booklet
    B. Lifetime U visa - Sticker is affixed to actual passport, just like any other visa.
